Work Experience

Breaking Ground

New York, NY

Software & Data Engineer

Breaking Ground provides a wide array of social services ranging from street outreach to property management for the chronically homeless popula- tion of NYC. The wide array of services provided necessitates an internal platform for data collec- tion and distribution to provide the best possible outcome for our clients. On the Data Services team, I championed the effort to design and implemented an internal platform for data collection and shar- ing across all organization programs.

Software Developer

Contexxia Analytics

Development of a user interface to analyze financial documents. Working with a team of developers, we used natural language processing techniques to extract information from financial documents such as quarterly reports. We then tied this information to a comprehensive web interface that made the documents more readable.

Dictation

Dictation is an English based language for describing business applications. It is meant to smooth the understanding between a developer and a client by creating a programming language which looks and sounds like plain English. My responsibility included building a robust parser and implementing an interface for writing dictation code/paragraphs.

Research Assistant

At the Image Analysis and Communications Lab at JHU, we worked to segment 3D images of the retina. Using Optical Coherence Tomography, cross sections of the retina were taken from many human subjects. The retina is divided into several layers. Thinning of specific layers has been linked to neurodegenerative diseases. An accurate automatic segmentation technique could therefore be highly beneficial in the diagnosis of these diseases. Our work resulted in two publications.
